THE PROMISE - PART TWO

THE PROMISE – PART TWO

Abraham was overjoyed to have been given such a blessing through his wife Sarah.  That he named the little bundle of joy Isaac, which means laughter.  Abraham’s life was wrapped up in this child of promise.  The promise that through Isaac, God would bless the whole world, God fulfilled that promise about 2000 years later. Through Isaac’s blood line came the Savior of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ.

To show how God sometimes messes with our heads, God spoke: “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest… and offer him… for a burnt offering.” Gen. 22: 2   Leaving Abraham devastated!  Because this was to be come the greatest test in Abraham’s Life, because God also said put no other before him.  Now didn’t Abraham have two sons and did he not love the other one also?

I imagine when Abraham rose early that morning he was asking God why and how could he ask this of him and how could he bring himself to carry out such a act when God had promised that his offspring would be as the stars of heaven…  How could this be? For surly God would not lie, Abraham must have thought as he set off on his long journey with a troubled mind.  Even if he sacrificed his son, he knew God could raise him again.  He told his son where they where going and what for but he had know idea he was the lamb when he asked is father if he had forgotten to bring alone their offering.  “God will provide himself a lamb.” Gen.  22:9 is what he told his son.  I guess that’s when Isaac realized he was the lamb when he found himself bound and laid on that alter, Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife so slay his son.  But the angel of the Lord stopped him, calling out “Abraham… Abraham…  Now that I know thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” Abraham looked behind him and saw a ram caught by his horns in the thicket, and Abraham offered up the ram instead of his son.  GOD ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES.
Through Abraham, God had shown what He, Himself, would do 2000 years later… by sending his only begotten Son, to be a human sacrifice for our sins.  “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son… that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Jesus died, was buried and three days later He rose from the dead.

There are many claiming to know God, but don’t.  They go to church, but as it is also written, other will know you by the fruit you bear.  Every living soul to the insects has a roll to play.  Judas knew he was going to betray the Lord before Jesus told him that he would.  He even denied it, because in his heart it wasn’t a roll he would had wanted to play.  Jesus himself asked of his father to take this burden away from him as he prayed the night that they came for him as a mob, which he had been telling them what was to come, and yet they still tried to defend him.  Yes, even Satan is playing a role that otherwise he too would rather remained in Heaven.  Therefore what makes you think you are worthy?
